My main search engine is Google, but another, called Delta, appeared mysteriously one day and I’ve kept it. Between them, their main pages tend to highlight different points of interest for the day or week.
Okay, so he was definitely someone of note.
On 27 January 1945, the largest Nazi death camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau, was liberated by Soviet troops.
I am not Jewish and I was born after WWII, but I think that it is an important enough day that it should be mentioned on any search site which has taken the trouble to change from its normal page.
Most are aware that the Holocaust was the extermination of 6 million Jews, but we often don’t know or have forgotten that 2 million Gypsies were killed along with 15 000 homosexuals. There were millions of others that were eliminated as well, in a purge to rid the Nazis of anyone they felt undesirable. This included mentally handicapped people.
So, my blog today is my small effort to perpetuate the memory of the Holocaust. We should never forget that it happened and was even allowed to happen, because there were people who knew and did nothing. The horror is no less 70 or more years later.
Please take a minute and remember...
