Imagine my surprise, then, when a friend read my collection of short stories and proceeded to make a spread sheet where she noted each story with points!
She originally created four categories: 1 Originality; 2 Twist in the Tale; 3 Characters & 4 Educational Value. Afterwards, she had second thoughts and added a fifth column worth from 0 to 2 points for how much she liked the story.
All points added together tied two stories in first place. One I thought was pretty good myself but the other? Another of those surprises.
She has actually given me positive constructive criticism without being cruel with this method. As a result, I would like more of the same from other people.
If you would like this e-book for free (usually sells for $3.99) in exchange for filling in the same spread sheet she used (I will supply it), let me know. I will publish the results on-line for all those who participated to see. This could be fun. See ôô where you stand in your tastes along with others.

Oh, and need I say that my friend was an accountant before she retired?
