These are, of course, foods that kill through their high fat, sugar and/or sodium content; poisons in their own way.
They used to say that what is current in America today will be here in Europe in fifty years. But with the change of media (immediate access to what is going on anywhere), I doubt that it has taken more than a couple of years to have our own death menus created here in Europe. The visual proof is the increase in obese adults that we now see.
How’s that for a culture shock?
I must immediately state here that becoming a vegetarian was never to do with my health. That is only the bi-product. I refuse to eat meat or fowl for three reasons.
Originally, my motivation was that I knew that I would never be able to kill the animal myself, so shouldn’t be a hypocrite and eat it. The second came swiftly on the heels of the first as I discovered the inhumane treatment of animals, which is part and parcel of the food chain. And finally, the realisation that animals have spirits, feelings and emotions, cinched my stand forever.
I believe it was Paul McCartney who said that slaughterhouses should have glass walls so everyone sees exactly what happens. They might change their minds about meat after that. Slaughterhouses are the end of an animal’s life. How horribly have they been treated up until then? But I digress. It will be the subject of another rant.
I don’t profess to knowing a lot more about dietary requirements than the average person, but I do know that an excess of salt, sugar and fat is BAD.

Of course, there are those who feel that everyone has a right to eat as he likes even if it kills him. There is also the aspect that it will kill off some of those in an ever-expanding population – because those obese folks will die earlier than the rest of us!
There is definitely something wrong with a system that lets unhealthy food be sold in large portions. But then, it is a system that lets companies sell cigarettes and modify the genetics on crops.
There, even we vegetarians are victims, albeit unwilling.
So I sign petitions. I try to alert people about insidious dangers they might avoid if they take action. I rant. And I do my best to protect those I love.
And you?
