Wrapping my wet head in a towel, and throwing on clothes, I hastened downstairs to hear the plaintiff sound of animals howling near to the property where we live.
Our two horses, a mare and her foal, had come as near to the house as possible, spooked by the noise in the next field over. The howling was followed by men shouting and then that terrifying sound of guns being shot.
The hunting season had brought out the men and their dogs within a farming and residential area!
I can understand hunting for food, but hunting for the pleasure of killing is beyond my comprehension.
Don't tell me that it is culling of animals who would get out of hand.
Nature, left to her own devices, finds a way to balance things out -- until man interferes.
I will be counting all our cats tonight, because I wouldn't put it past a frustrated hunter to shoot one.
The pleasure of hitting a moving target...
